Laura

Principal of Yellow Kite Nursery

Laura has been the Principal of Yellow Kite Nursery, formerly Kangaroo Kids, since 2020, and has devoted her career to early childhood education, inclusion, and community building.

From an early age, Laura felt drawn to working with children. What began as a natural instinct to care, lead, and connect grew into a lifelong vocation. She pursued her passion through formal study and went on to qualify as a social worker, specialising in supporting disabled children and underprivileged families. Her career has spanned children’s homes, pupil support centres, schools, and nurseries, giving her a deep, practical understanding of children’s emotional, social, and developmental needs.

Alongside her professional experience, Laura has continued to expand her knowledge through further qualifications in Early Years education, SEND, and adult education. Her approach is rooted in the belief that children learn best when they feel safe, seen, and understood. Rather than asking children to fit into adult expectations, she focuses on stepping into their world, building depth, genuine relationships, and following their natural curiosity.

At Yellow Kite Nursery, Laura has played a key role in shaping a strong sense of community. She is deeply committed to creating environments where families feel supported and educators feel valued. Under her leadership, the nursery has embraced child-led, play-based learning approaches, including the Curiosity Approach, and has become known for its calm, connected, and nurturing culture.

Inclusion sits at the heart of Laura’s work. She believes it must be lived daily, not simply stated. By working closely with families, listening openly to feedback, and rejecting one-size-fits-all thinking, she ensures that each child’s individual needs are respected and supported.

Laura’s vision for early years education is guided by three core principles: connection, protection, and play. She is passionate about protecting childhood, encouraging meaningful relationships, and giving children the freedom to explore, imagine, and grow at their own pace. For her, success is measured not only in accreditations, but in the trust of families and the lasting relationships built along the way.

As Principal, Laura continues to lead with empathy, curiosity, and confidence, ensuring that Yellow Kite Nursery remains a place where children, families, and educators truly belong.
